Known as “The Marble City,” Knoxville is a city located in Knox County, Tennessee. Knoxville developed its nickname as “The Marble City,” because of its large production and distribution of pink marble throughout the nation. The city’s marble contributed to the construction of various significant building including The National Gallery of Art located in Washington. Knoxville, founded in 1786, is Tennessee’s second oldest major city. It has a population of 173,890 and is the third largest city in the state. Knoxville was named after Henry Knox, first Secretary of War. The city is home to the University of Tennessee’s main campus as well as a few famous celebrities including, Kenny Chesney (country singer), Quentin Tarantino (actor and director) and Johnny Knoxville (actor).
REAL ESTATE
Knoxville has a large selection of universities and colleges to pick from. Knoxville is home of the University of Tennessee’s main campus. Other higher education institutes include Pellissippi State Technical Community College, Knoxville Business College, ITT Technical institute and Knoxville College. Some of the biggest public school include Farragut High School, Bearden High School, Karns High School. A few of the bigger private schools include Webb School of Knoxville, Knoxville Catholic High School and Sacred Heart Cathedral School.
Knoxville has year round events and festivals. A few of the festivals include the 17-Day Dogwood Arts Festival (April), Rossini Festival (April), Sundown in the City (April) and autumn on the square. Boomsday is another huge event which takes place every Labor Day. This event features the largest Labor Day fireworks display in the United States. It takes place between the University of Tennessee’s football stadium and downtown on the banks of the Tennessee River. Notable locations include the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, the Knoxville Convention Center and the Knoxville Museum of Art. Parks in the city great for outdoor recreation include Volunteer Park, West Hills Park, Morningside Park, Leslie Street Park and Clinch Avenue Park. Nearby attractions include Dollywood, Great Smokey Mountains National Park and Big Ridge State Park.
